What is hoop dance? Candy Pie found a beautiful description sent to her by Betty Lucas of Hoop Chi International Dance. Betty's friend Sierra writes on her website, Prana Yoga Denville:
Hooping is a fun workout, meditative body movement practice and playful dance. Using adult sized and weighted handmade hula hoops, we will surrender to the awareness that comes with the hoop as our dance partner. The body’s natural flow and rhythm is explored through contact and spinning while developing a grounded core strength. Hoop Dance redefines play and can help with coordination, balance, strength, confidence, focus and stress relief/release. All things are spinning and this incredible movement art expresses the orbiting in the micro-cosmic and macro-cosmic whirled! Thousands around the globe have discovered incredible joy in the Hooping revolution!
Candy Pie's twin sister, Annie runs a charity called World Hoop Day. As children, Annie and Candy, hooped for fun. Around May 5, 2005, Annie thought it would be great to have an international holiday for hooping, and that blossomed into a dream to have the whole world hoop for peace on December 12, 2012. To accomplish this goal, hoops would have to be donated to those who could not afford one. Annie and Candy spent four months of 2005 traveling through Europe and Asia talking about World Hoop Day, dance, peace and bubbles!
